Responsibilities

Resident Care

  • Assist the Nurse Manager to create a safe, warm and supportive family-centered environment that promotes the “child comes first’ and that encourages residents/families and staff to achieve their full potential.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships with the Medical Staff, resident/parent, employee and vendors.
  • Evaluate, prioritize and meet the care needs of each resident. Identify and remedy issues by placing a strong emphasis on quality care and customer satisfaction.
  • In Nurse Manager’s absence, act as the main point of contact between residents and their families. Address & prevent concerns from family members.
  • May provide direct resident care. Participate with Medical Services Staff in evaluating resident health decisions.
  • Assess incidents involving resident care and report findings to Nursing, Operations, Quality and Talent Management leadership.
  • Assist in developing, implementing and adjusting a resident’s Care Plan as needed. Monitor that the nursing staff follow changes to Care Plan.
  • Attend interdisciplinary Clinical Status meetings to assess residents’ progress and take steps to address any issues.
  • Build staff schedules consistent with the residents’ needs and provide the accountability of established standards of care.

 Nursing Staff Management

  • Support neighborhood aligned goals and objectives with Nursing and Center based goals and objectives and that the staff meet the objectives.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager to hire the most qualified nursing staff and unit clerk. Oversee that they are successfully oriented, trained/precepted and competent to perform their responsibilities.
  • Supervise, coach, counsel, develop, evaluate performance and provide discipline when necessary to nursing staff and unit clerks to ensure highest quality day-to-day performance.
  • Maintain an appropriate number of qualified preceptors to train new hires. Monitor the effectiveness of preceptors in preparing new hires successfully perform their responsibilities. Take appropriate steps to remedy any issues.
  • Assign qualified preceptors to train new hires in a consistent manner.
  • Assist Nurse Manager to ensure nursing staff are current in competencies, assessments, licensure, certifications and other annual training.
  • Guide and direct the nursing staff on nursing theory and practice; continuity of care; appropriate goal directed care; and, quality and safety protocols. Assess effectiveness of practices and take action to improve.
  • Communicate effectively with neighborhood staff and disseminate information timely and accurately. Make sure all nursing staff and unit clerks are current with changes in policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Staffing Office to facilitate self-staffing. Assign coverage for clinical visits, school attendance and call outs.
  • Interpret and enforce all policies and procedures for nursing staff, unit clerk and other services assigned to neighborhood.
  • Support a system for recognition and rewards for service excellence in the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Operations Management

  • Assist the Nurse Manager to problem solve any clinical, administrative and procedural issues emergencies that arise on the neighborhood or in the Center.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager in the resolution of investigations, complaints and grievances. Recommend appropriate action commensurate with the findings. Submit oral/written reports to the Nurse Manager.
  • Assist Nurse Manager to remediate procedural problems and work with appropriate stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Implement and enforce overall nursing and Center policies, procedures and services to comply with regulatory standards.
  • Represent the Nursing Department in various forums, e.g., the establishment and/or review of Center-wide policies, procedures and long-term care regulatory requirements; Center committees; special projects; pilots; new products/equipment. Keep colleagues up to date.
  • Ensure purchase requisitions and purchase orders are properly prepared, signed and submitted as required.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager with monitoring expenses to stay within budget.
  • Facilitate identification of neighborhood quality concerns or issues for Quality Assurance Performance Improvement projects.
  • Review EMR status board and other variance reports and follow up with staff on outstanding items to ensure they competently utilize all nursing related systems.
  • Communicate updates regularly to Nurse Manager about resident care, family interactions, staff performance, operational status and other relevant topics.
  • Conduct daily environmental rounds and take appropriate actions to resolve issues.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory for weekend supplies needs.
  • Schedule: Oversee the neighborhood on rotating weekends and holidays. May be assigned to alternative schedule to provide nursing leadership coverage as needed.
  • Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by Nursing and Operations leadership.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or related field.
  • New York State Nursing License. 

Experience

  • At least 3 years pediatric experience.

Salary Range:

$115,000 to $125,00.00
