Purpose of Your Position
To ensure in collaboration with the Nurse Manager for each unit that safe, appropriate and goal-directed care is provided in a consistent manner, to provide support and direction to nursing staff on the evening and night tours of duty and to ensure the implementation of the Nursing Department policies and procedures on the evening and night tours of duty.
Position Functions and Responsibilities
- Understands and promotes Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures.
- Perform clinical evaluations of residents for acute illness or change in status.
- Provide medical services for residents who have chronic issues as needed
- Order medications and ensure proper administration.
- Provide emergency services for residents and staff as needed.
- Assist Employee Health office with immunizations, PPD placement and reading, and staff assessments as needed.
- Address abnormal laboratory results and document assessment and plans.
- Order and arrange transfer of residents to acute care facilities as indicated, including provision of written consultation and telephone call to receiving ED.
- Write thorough notes including history, physical exam, assessment, and plan for resident encounters.
- Use electronic medical record for notes and orders.
- Provide end-of-shift sign out to nursing and medical staff.
- Make rounds to ensure that all residents are seen at least one time per shift.
- In partnership with nurse supervisor, take active role in education, support, and guidance of staff.
- Meet with parents, physicians, other staff, and/or administration as needed.
- Maintain knowledge base through continuing professional education programs and provide documentation to medical staff office.
- Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by supervisor, department director, and/or administration.
