Required: Students With Disabilities (Birth - Grade 2)

 

The Special Education Teacher for preschool provides tailored educational support to young children with diverse learning needs. This role involves creating a nurturing, inclusive environment and developing individualized education plans (IEPs) to promote the academic, social, and emotional development of students.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Instruction: Design and implement personalized lesson plans and educational activities based on each child's unique needs, strengths, and interests.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct assessments to identify students’ abilities and needs, develop IEPs, and regularly monitor and document progress.
  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain a supportive, structured classroom environment that fosters learning and positive behavior.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with parents, caregivers, and other educators to ensure cohesive support for students. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of school-wide strategies.
  • Behavior Support: Develop and implement behavioral interventions and strategies to address challenging behaviors and support positive social interactions.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and early childhood education.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all practices are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with families, providing regular updates on student progress and strategies for continued support at home.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification: Valid state certification in Special Education for preschool or early childhood settings.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with young children in a special education or inclusive setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and special education methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans.
  • Proficiency in assessment and data collection.
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor with a strong commitment to student growth.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in activities with young children, including physical activities such as sitting on the floor, bending, and lifting.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to monitor and interact with children effectively.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Special Education
  • New York State Provisional or Permanent Certification required: Special Education/Students with Disabilities Birth-2

 

Experience

  • Minimum of one-year teaching experience with special needs children in an early childhood and/or special education setting as or
  • Minimum two years as a Teacher Assistant

Salary Range:

$64,584.oo/Yr. To $73,899.00/Yr.
